Recently, the genus Lobivia, and Echinopsis, etc., have begun show up in taiwan market, and the varieties that can be purchased have increased.

However,compare to peacock cactus and crab cactus, spherical Lobivia and Echinopsis are more difficult to reproduce.

The peacock and crab can be easily cut and trade.Echinopsis is a ball. It is difficult to cut a spherical  cactus without hurting mother plant too much.


Here i demonstrate method of grafting single areole for breeding this type of spherical cactus.

This is the mother plant. It should has obvious rib, or  limited water to shrink him down.

In order to facilitate the fixation, the spines must be cut off. The electrician Diagonal pliers

 are a good choice

Use a pen knife or scalpel to cut the ribs, this kind of precision knife is required.

Cut it into suitable size and graft it. 

does't matter if the scion has vascular bundle or not.
